The iconic Dutch Type Library started, after years of preparation, to develop and publish high-quality fonts in 1990. dtl is renowned for its exclusive and exquisite typefaces, which are used worldwide for delicate and refined typography and sophisticated branding. The typefaces of the Dutch Type Library are optimized for print and web applications.

More than 30 years ago the Dutch Type Library started supplying exclusive digital typefaces for the high-end market. The company has since grown into the largest of its kind in the Low Countries. Attention is focused primarily on contemporary designs, but dtl also revives valuable historical type designs. The Dutch Type Library feels bound to the rich typographic tradition of the Netherlands: dtl’s exquisite collection of digital fonts can be compared with the very best that the famous type foundries have produced in the past. Since the second half of the 1990s, the Dutch Type Library developes proprietary software for the professional fontproduction. These tools are avaliable for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

The texts on this website are typeset in web-optimized versions of dtl Argo and dtl Antares. The applied css code is supported by the latest browsers from Mozilla, Google, Apple, and Microsoft. The perfectly crafted dtl typefaces appear as harmonically and rhythmically on screen as in print. The dtl webfonts enable typographic refinements on the internet, such as applying old-style figures and small caps. More information on dtl webfonts.

DTL Font Tools

dtl Font Tools
Font production is a complex process that requires full control of the technology involved. Since the end of the 1990s the Dutch Type library develops tools for the professional font production. The history of these tools goes all the way back to the ikarus system from more than 40 years ago. From the beginning of this development on, the goal has always been to make batch processing of font data as easy as possible.
In 2001 the dtl FontMaster (fm) suite was released after years of preparations. It was the first font tool on the market that made automatic subsetting of OpenType Layout features possible. FoundryMaster (fm2) is the new advanced successor for macOS, Windows, and Linux of the fm suite. The current flagship of the dtl font tools is without any doubt OTMaster (otm), which is a highly sophisticated application for editing and altering OpenType and TrueType fonts. More information
