dtl Haarlemmer

John Dreyfus schreef hierover in The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, schreef John Dreyfus in The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Dat de versie van Monotype niet geslaagd was, betekende niet dat het lettertype geen kwaliteiten bezat, hetgeen Walter Tracy in Letters of Credit (Londen, 1986) opmerkte: ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus schrieb hierzu in The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, schrieb John Dreyfus in The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Dass die Monotype-Version nicht gelungen war, bedeutete nicht, dass die Schrift keine Qualitäten besaß, wie Walter Tracy in Letters of Credit (London, 1986) bemerkte: ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus écrivait à ce sujet dans The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952) : ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, écrivait John Dreyfus dans The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Le fait que la version Monotype ne soit pas pleinement réussie ne signifiait pas que la police soit dépourvue de qualités, comme le notait Walter Tracy dans Letters of Credit (Londres, 1986) : ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus scrisse a riguardo in The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, scrisse John Dreyfus in The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Il fatto che la versione Monotype non fosse pienamente riuscita non significava che il carattere fosse privo di qualità, come osservò Walter Tracy in Letters of Credit (Londra, 1986): ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus escribió al respecto en The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, escribió John Dreyfus en The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Que la versión de Monotype no hubiera sido plenamente satisfactoria no significaba que el tipo careciera de cualidades, como señaló Walter Tracy en Letters of Credit (Londres, 1986): ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus escreveu a esse respeito em The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, escreveu John Dreyfus em The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

O facto de a versão da Monotype não ter sido plenamente bem-sucedida não significava que o tipo não possuísse qualidades, como observou Walter Tracy em Letters of Credit (Londres, 1986): ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’

John Dreyfus kirjoitti tästä teoksessa The Work of Jan van Krimpen, A record in honour of his sixtieth birthday (Haarlem / Utrecht, 1952): ‘The type was designed to work on an existing Monotype keybar layout in order to keep down costs of production.’
‘The first trial sheets of Haarlemmer were pulled in June 1938. Further work on the design was done at the Monotype works in England during the early months of the war, but all plans for the Staten Bijbel were abandoned after the invasion of Holland’, kirjoitti John Dreyfus teoksessa The Work of Jan van Krimpen.

Monotype Haarlemmer -kirjasimen (matriisirungon asettamien) rajoitusten vuoksi digitaalinen uudelleentulkinta ei ensi silmäyksellä vaikuttanut tarpeelliselta. Oli kuitenkin hyviä syitä antaa kirjasimelle uusi elämä. Se, että Monotypen versio ei ollut täysin onnistunut, ei tarkoittanut, ettei kirjasimella olisi ollut laatua, kuten Walter Tracy totesi teoksessa Letters of Credit (Lontoo, 1986): ‘Certainly the narrow h, n, u and rather wide o and c were out of proportion and needed revision; and if the italic lowercase could have been a little narrower it would have seemed to gain weight and would have harmonised better with the roman. The design would then have become an effective book type.’
